Located a short drive south of Holiday Inn Burbank, Griffith Park offers families several days of indoor education and outdoor recreation. Although the world renowned Griffith Observatory and Los Angeles Zoo receive most of the publicity, the hidden gem called the Autry Museum of the American West steals the cultural show. Affordable entrance fees make this cultural hotspot a must see stop on your vacation itinerary.
Overview of the Museum
Legendary actor Gene Autry opened the museum in 1988 to offer visitors numerous artistic exhibitions and public access programs that include lectures by prominent historians and cultural festivals that attract visitors throughout the world. The site in Griffith Park acts as the preeminent research and educational outreach center for American West history and culture. Curators of the museum renovated the wildly popular Gamble Firearms Gallery and Irene Helen Jones Parks Gallery in 2013, as well as organized several exhibits by themes, rather than by time stamps.Details
