You can see it outside of Dodgers Stadium and the Rose Bowl. It appears in several movies and has emerged as the cultural icon of Southern California.
A stay at Holiday Inn Burbank isn’t complete until you take in the splendor of the highly venerated Hollywood sign.
Hollywood Sign Overview
Measuring 350 long and rising 45 feet above its position on Mount Lee, the Hollywood sign originally acted as an 24 hours per day advertisement for a Hollywood real estate company. Built in 1923, the iconic sign has undergone several restorations and one demolition. After a few years, the sign began to attract the interest of Hollywood producers and directors that created films shot in Southern California. From ground level, the shape of the hills creates a wavy illusion that enhances the appeal of the Hollywood sign. As a result of constant vandalism, The Trust for Public Land has installed a security system. The Hollywood sign and adjacent land sit in Griffith Park, which is home to the Griffith Park Observatory and Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens.Details
