Holiday Inn Burbank welcomes families that travel to Southern California from all over the United States and throughout the world. When asked to suggest family-friendly attractions, we like to mention the hidden gems you do not see in travel brochures. One such gem operates east of our hotel in Ontario, California.
Scandia Ontario Rides
Scandia Ontario offers a wide variety of rides, with each ride requiring park guests to be a minimum height. As the most trilling ride, the Scandia Screamer blazes a path over winding tracks that often descend into what appears to be a freefall. The popular roller coaster ride receives rave reviews like the ones written for rides that operate inside of Disneyland. Cliff jumper mimics the sensation of jumping from the edge of a cliff. Baltic Sea Bumper Boats add a nice twist to classic bumper cars found at most amusement parks. Children who do not meet the age requirements for the VIP rides might qualify for one or more of the JR VIP rides.
If you want to take a break from thrill seeking, Scandia Ontario has a diversion just for you. More than 150 of the most recently released art video and prize redemption games keep park visitors busy. Two meticulously sculpted Scandinavian themed miniature golf courses have over 12,000 flowers planted every year to complement the swirling rivers, gushing waterfalls, and quiet streams. The courses rank as two of the best in Southern California. Batting cage area includes eight fast pitch cages that range in ball speed between 25 and 70 miles per hour. Seven slow pitch softball cages and one 55 miles per hour fast pitch softball cage round out the batting cage options.
Hungry guests have two dining options: Olga’s Kitchen and The Scandia Grill. The restaurants serve American classics, with a few native Scandinavia items added to create international flair for the menu. Group facilities include a picnic area that is the ideal outdoor dining spot for families and a 200-seat pavilion that caters to large groups.
Scandia Ontario specializes in educational tours that entertain the entire family. Educational tours include a certified expert that guides everyone through a hands-on experience. Certified guides give you a rare behind the scene glimpses of processes such as the operation of gas and electric motors. You learn about hydroelectric energy and its impact on conserving the dwindling water supply. Get a better understanding about aerodynamics concepts, especially when it involves centrifugal force. The highly skilled and dynamic educators teach subjects that park visitors can only understand by participating in the running of scientific experiments.
